Developments in SOMA

 

  • The Contemporary Jewish Museum, on Mission Street between 3rd and 4th Street, will be open June 8, 2008. The 63,000 SF building will house exhibits and programs relating to Jewish culture, art, history and ideas.
  • One Rincon Hill a two tower residential building with 14 town houses and 695 homes is under construction at 425 First Street. In March of 2008 residents moved into one of the towers while construction continues. The projected date of completion is 2009.

 

 

  • Intercontinental San Francisco Hotel opened its doors to guest in March 2008. The 32-story hotel is located on the corner of Howard and Fifth Street, next to the Moscone Convention Center. The hotel has 43,000 square feet of meeting and event space, 550 rooms and a 130 seat restaurant, Luce.

 

  • The SOMA Grand a 22-story builidng at 1160 Mission Street that houses 246 residental condominums

  • The Federal Building at 7th Street and Mission opened July 2007. The 18-story tower and office building also contains offices, conference facilities, a cafe, plaza, and a community daycare center.

 

 

  • The Mint Plaza a new public plaza, spanning 54 feet of Jessie Street (between 5th and Mint Street) was completed in November 2007.

  • San Francisco State University Downtown Campus @ The Westfield Centre at 835 Market hosts about 7,700 SFSU Graduate and College of Extended Learning students. San Francisco State University leases approximately 100,000 square feet of the office space available on the fifth & sixth floor of the Westfield Centre.

 

 

  • The Westfield San Francisco Centre opened Fall 2006 on Market Street (between Fourth and Fifth Street). Retail and entertainment destination. This centre houses a nine screen cinema complex, 200 specialty stores and is anchored by Bloomingdale's.

 

  • Whole Foods Market opened at 399 4th Street in January 2004.

 

  • REI, the renowned supplier of specialty outdoor gear, opened at 840 Brannan Street in October 2003.
